Chemist brings fresh air to city dwellers
The company Airlabs, founded on the basis of research by the University of Copenhagen’s Department of Chemistry, is aiming to do something about pollution in the world’s big cities.
Air pollution is making more and more cities a health hazard. Airlabs – a new company with roots in the University of Copenhagen – has set out to develop air purification solutions for the residents of these cities.
Atmospheric chemist Matthew Johnson from the University of Copenhagen developed the new air purification technology at the core of the company’s business.
He envisions that Airlabs will develop “blue sky” zones with clean air in selected locations, such as bus stops, playgrounds or shopping streets. The long-term vision is to bring clean air to entire cities.
“We don’t just want to sell a small black box that removes air pollution from a limited area. We would prefer to develop and sell comprehensive solutions that ensure you can breathe freely throughout the city,” says Matthew Johnson, who has also been hired as the company’s Chief Scientific Officer.
