Industrial site to be transformed into youth residences
A former metal goods factory in the Copenhagen Science City-street Rådmandsgade is now on track to be transformed into 159 apartments for students and other youths. The current owners, developers CPH Invest, applied for a building permit in December 2022. Their plan is to tear down one small building in the large industrial complex and to remodel the rest extensively.
From metalworks to media to residential
For several decades the Rådmandsgade-complex has been home to various media-production companies, such as the tv-channel DK4. It consists of a large administration building facing the street, an even larger machine shop and a number of interconnected smaller industrial buildings typical of the 1950’s.
Homes for start-up staff
Copenhagen Science City is undergoing a transformation that requires more and more space for innovative companies and their employees, including youth, and students. This is one of the reasons why a number of youth residences in the innovation district have been built in recent years.
- A former home appliances factory was transformed into 189 youth residencies
- A nautical navigation school was rebuilt into 161 units
- Two new buildings were constructed to house 85 units
Roof-gardens and balconies
If the permit goes through planning unchanged, the youth residencies will feature communal roof-gardens while most individual flats will have balconies. The City of Copenhagen Technical and Environmental Committee will consider the application on December 4th 2023
