The Danish model for cancer treatment and prevention

Prominent Danish and international figures kicked-off the ESMO-conference at an event held at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen on thursday the 6th of October. Speakers included Chairwoman of the regional committee of the Capital Region of Denmark Sofie Hæstorp Andersen and Ulrik Lassen, professor and Head of Phase 1 Unit at Rigshospitalet and local host of ESMO16. The event was fortunate that Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary participated.

The collaboration in recent decades between health authorities, researchers, businesses and patient organisations means that Denmark has become a world leader in cancer treatment and research. Presented at ESMO was information from each partner on the efforts that have contributed to the results Denmark have achieved in fighting cancer.

The topic of the kick-off event was to introduce the Danish model of cancer treatment and prevention. The Danish model contains information from the involved partners and serves as a source of inspiration to countries around the world. The Danish model has a good fit with the motto of ESMO16: “from disease treatment to patient care”.
